A plus one is a person the host did not write down. They do not inherit a seat because the couple at the door was nice.
The short answer
A plus one gets in only when the host sends them their own link. The couple's link is for the couple. A friend in the car, a date from this week, and a coworker are not on the list until the host says so.
Your host invites friends. The host invites friends they'd love to have there. One private link per person the host chose. A one-sided yes stays hidden.
Adult only. Private by design. You confirm you are 18 or older. The host still checks you in.
How a plus one gets in
Ask the host before you drive over. The porch is the wrong place to negotiate.
- Tell the host the person's name before the day of the party.
- They need their own link. They do not use yours.
- If the host says no, they do not come. You still can.
- If they arrive anyway, they wait outside while the host decides.
- Do not hold the door for someone you cannot name from the list.
A single the host invited is different
A single man, a unicorn, or a bull is a guest the host invited on purpose, with a ceiling everyone heard. A plus one is the opposite: someone who arrived because a couple brought them.
Do not use those words for a person standing on the step. If the host wants them, the host will say so and send a link.
At the door
Only the host checks people in. A door code and a QR pass are for the list. Guests cannot check themselves in, and they cannot check in a friend.
