What opening the cards does

The host opens answering. Guests can change a yes or a no until it closes.
The short answer
Opening the cards is a step on a key party or a play party. Your host invites friends. The host invites friends they'd love to have there. One private link per couple. It needs at least two couples, or two couples or singles on an open party. It will not open after the deadline.
While it is open, guests can answer until the host closes it or the deadline passes. Closing means they can no longer change a yes or a no. If the finish reminder is on and has no date yet, opening sets that date to the halfway point.
Adult only. Private by design. You confirm you are 18 or older. The host still checks you in. A private no stays private.
Close, then reopen
Closing early saves the deadline that was in place. Reopen puts that deadline back, and only if it is still ahead of now and still before the party starts. The note says guests can answer again until the deadline you closed.
If that saved time has already passed, answering stays closed. The app will not invent a later deadline. Opening again is not available once the party has moved past the inviting step, except for that reopen.
A play party asks you to close answering before the reveal. A speed date does not use this open and close. It starts its own rotation.
What opening does not do
It does not answer a card. It does not fill in a yes. Guests can still change a yes or a no until the close or the deadline, whichever comes first.
It does not check anyone in, and it does not start the reveal. A test party can open the cards. It still does not send email or reminders.
A night in Portland uses this same step. Las Vegas does too. Those cities have their own pages. The deadline still lives on the party.
Opening is not the reveal
All mutual-yes matches are revealed by the format the host already chose. Opening the cards does not show a match. A one-sided yes stays hidden.
A key party shows one Play Partner at the same time, after the host starts the reveal. A play party keeps matches hidden until the host reveals them. A speed date is short rounds, then yes or no.
