What a group match is

Allow group matches is off unless the host turns it on. It is only for an open key party.
The short answer
A group match is three people, or two couples. Allow group matches is off by default, and the switch shows only on an open key party. Your host invites friends. The host invites friends they'd love to have there. One private link per couple. A play party, a couples-only key party, and a speed date do not use it.
Each person has to leave the opt-in on. Everyone in the group who is not already partners has to have said yes to each other. Partners do not need a mutual yes with each other. A one-sided yes stays hidden.
Adult only. Private by design. You confirm you are 18 or older. The host still checks you in. A private no stays private.
The guest opt-in
On an open key party with the switch on, each guest can turn on Open to a group of three, or a group of two couples. They are included only if they leave that on and everyone in the group said yes to each other. The control hides once the night is revealed or a no-reveal message has been sent.
If the switch is off, a late opt-in is refused. The app says group matches are off for this party. Once groups are saved, or the night is settled, a change is refused. The app says group choices close at the reveal.
Saving the party as a play party, or as couples only, forces the switch off. The host cannot leave it on for those nights.
How a group is formed
A group of four has to be exactly two couples. Every person in one couple needs a mutual yes with every person in the other couple. A group of three can mix partners and another guest. Anyone who is not already a partner still needs a mutual yes with each other person in that three. Nobody who left the opt-in off is placed in a group.
Fours are tried before threes. A person is in at most one group. People who are not in a group can still be paired. Groups are used only when those groups, plus pairs for anyone left, cover the room. If that cover fails, the app pairs without groups.
That plan is for the first reveal. Later rounds pair people and do not build a new group. When a full group plan exists, the no-reveal button stays off, and the host reveals the groups and any leftover pairs together.
The other nights stay pairs
All mutual-yes matches are revealed by the format the host already chose. A group match does not replace that. It is an extra shape on an open key party, and only when the host turned it on.
A key party without the switch shows one Play Partner at the same time, after the host starts the reveal. A play party keeps matches hidden until the host reveals them. A speed date is short rounds, then yes or no.
