How to slow a match down

A dressed couple on a sofa at night, sitting a little apart under a warm lamp.

Slowing down keeps the match and changes the pace. It is not a hint. Say the pace you want.

The short answer

A mutual yes means both sides said yes. It does not mean the next minute is decided. You can ask to talk, to sit, or to stop. Say which one. Your partner has to hear it too.

Your host invites friends. The host invites friends they'd love to have there. One private link per couple. The pace in the room is still yours.

Adult only. Private by design. You confirm you are 18 or older. The host still checks you in. A private no stays private, including a no to the pace.

Say the pace out loud

"Talk first," "wait," and "stop" are three different sentences. Use one of them. A pause, a joke, or a look at your partner is not a sentence the other couple can use.

If you want to keep the match and drop the pace, say that. If you want the match to end, say stop. Do not make them guess which one you meant.

A one-sided yes stays hidden before the match. After a match, a change of pace is said to the people in it. You do not poll the rest of the house.

Your partner is in the sentence

Decide the pace with your partner before you say it, or say it and then check with them in the same breath. One of you wanting to slow down is enough to slow down. The other person does not get to keep the old pace.

If you cannot agree with each other, step out of the room and talk. The other couple can wait or end the match. They should not sit there while you argue.

Setting boundaries together before a party

The format does not set the clock

All mutual-yes matches are revealed, whether that happens together, at check-in, or after the short rounds. The reveal is the match. It is not a start time.

A key party shows one Play Partner at the same time. A play party reveals matches at check-in. A speed date is short rounds, then yes or no. After any of those, you can still say talk, wait, or stop. If the room is wrong for that conversation, Message host. That note is private.

FAQ

Is slowing down the same as saying no?

No. Slowing down keeps the match and changes the pace. Stop ends it. Say which one you mean.

Do both of us have to want to slow down?

One of you is enough. The old pace does not continue while the other person is unsure.

What if the other couple wants to keep going?

They can wait, or the match can end. They do not keep a pace you stepped off.

Should we tell the whole room?

No. Say it to your partner and to the people in the match. Message host only if you need the host. That note is private.

Can we change our minds again?

Yes. A slower pace can become a stop, or it can become a yes to continue. Each step is said out loud.

Does the format decide how fast the night goes?

No. All mutual-yes matches are revealed. After that, the people in the match set the pace. A key party, a play party, and a speed date do not start a timer.
